Stephanie & Sam's Magic Sayulita Wedding

Stephanie and Sam were the sweetest and most fun couple to work with. I first met Steph a few months before her wedding, and from the beginning she was awesome. She always has a smile on her face, and I love the way her face lights up every time she and Sam are with one and other. There’s no doubt these two were made for each other.

Steph’s simple and unique style was reflected perfectly on her wedding day . She wore a beautiful two piece gown which perfectly contoured her form. I loved the button detail going down one side of the gown leading into a leg spilt in the skirt. Her smoky eye makeup and natural glow looked amazing in combination with her dark hair in loose curls. The look was simple yet chic. She could not have looked more elegant.

Lauren and her team at Nicoella nailed it as always. The set up was amazing, and every single detail of the whole wedding week was executed flawlessly! As for the florals provided by Floweriize, I was in love! They were absolutely beautiful. Steph’s day went off without a hitch - this was no small feat for the various vendors involved - yet they made it happen and everyone had a memorable time. The mood was light and happy., and all eyes were on Steph and Sam as everyone made sure their day was a dream come true.

I’ve since had the opportunity to visit with Steph on a brief trip to Mexico City this past spring. It was so great to reconnect with her and see how well she was doing.

My team and I had an amazing time working with you Steph, thank you for those memorable moments! Wishing you and Sam all the best with your new home in DC!

El Cortez Tattoo Bride

More and more as of late, I feel the need to prioritize collaborating on styled shoots. The ones that are designed to encourage the people participating in them to spend some time together to play, try new things, and generally just have fun with what they do. This isn’t always easy during wedding season, but I’m happy to share this super fun one from a shoot in Edmonton.

In this profession the same team (more or less) works together regularly. Among the weddings, engagement sessions, family sessions, and special events, our clients have a specific look in mind, and we don’t always find the time to stretch our creativity on personal projects. The beauty of styled shoots is that they give us an opportunity not only to find new inspiration for ourselves, but to inspire others, and most importantly, to come back to our clients with renewed energy and creativity!

The objective of this shoot was to inspire women to show their own unique style, while incorporating traditional wedding aspects. We wanted to focus on a more edgy look and of course, those awesome tattoos and show that every woman can be a blushing bride, no matter their personal style. Now more than ever, couples choose to introduce elements into their events to better reflect who they are and their story. No two couples are the same, and those little details outside of the norm are ALWAYS my favorite.

We had such a blast doing this shoot, working with such talented artists is so inspiring. We don't always find much time to exchange while working as we are so focused on our clients and our role in their event. These creative sessions bring us closer together, give us greater insight on each other's professional processes (which can be super helpful!) and remind us how important it is to know who we are referring our clients to. Without a doubt, all the babes involved in this shoot are AMAZING! You wouldn't regret working with one or all of them.

A huge thank you to everyone who participated for their creative brilliance, and for always inspiring me to push a bit harder!

Madelyn + Lawrence. Married in Sayulita

I often say I am fortunate to do something I love so much for a career. While it is the product of a lot of  hard work, and a little luck,  it's still my dream job. Clients like Madelyn are part of the reason why. I can't believe she and Lawrence have been married for almost a year(yikes, I guess my 'i'm gonna blog more weddings' goal needs a bit of work), I loved working with her so much, she was an awesome client and even more awesome bride!

Anyone who has worked with me knows I love not only doing hair and makeup, but getting to know my clients and helping in any way I can to make them feel extra special on their big day. To me, it's not just professional, it's personal. I am part of someone's personal dream team, one they have carefully put together, and it's important I make every effort to be sure they have the best day possible!

I had a blast doing her hair and makeup on the wedding day, and she made me feel like I was part of her amazing family and peer group. Needless to say, the day was filled with laughter and hijinx-and I was extremely grateful she chose me to doll her and her girls up on her big day! Not only is she a knockout, but she is hilarious, and so super sweet! Her energy is contagious, and it's easy to see why she was surrounded by so much love.

She had a great team of Sayulita vendors to ensure everything went off without a hitch, a stunning venue, and every single detail was on point. I loved her bridal style, which was effortless, classic, and just a bit sassy(a lot like her!), not to mention, she was a total babe. If you get a chance to check her out on here on Instagram, she also happens to have the voice of an angel! You won't be sorry;)

Thanks so much again Madelyn and Lawrence, I cherish the moments I share with my clients and I love watching their lives grow!!

Sayulita beach shoot

Being back in Edmonton's winter wonderland(ahem) has me dreaming of the beaches and vibrant beach culture of Sayulita. On this chilly day, it felt like the perfect time to share images from a Sayulita photoshoot last April with a couple of amazing babes! After all, this chill needs a serious dose of that Sayulita heat and sunshine to warm up!

During wedding season, it can be difficult to make the time to do personal projects or collaborative work, but when I do, I'm always so inspired and excited to get back to my clients with a renewed vigor. I'm so fortunate to work with such a huge number of talented and inspiring people in not one, but two different places! This shoot was special one, as it was with one of my favorite Sayulita photographers, Taryn Baxter , and my lovely friend and Second Artist Justine,  and it was exactly what I needed.

The day of the shoot was a tough one for me on a personal note. My dad had been in an accident back in Canada the day before and was seriously injured. After discussing with my family, we decided to evaluate on a day to day basis whether I should go home. Taryn and Justine were up for anything I was, so the shoot went on and boy was that ever what I needed! Those few hours doing what I love with two so genuinely fun and sweet women were amazing. It felt good to feel normal for a few hours.  They may not fully know how grateful I was(and am) for their compassion, love, and caring during those days, especially on that one. The good news is that my dad is back to his old stubborn self causing a rucous daily.

Ultimately, laughs were had when there was no reason to, and we three made some pretty amazing memories.

Enjoy!
