Lauren's Romantic Hacienda Antigua wedding

Lauren and David celebrated their wedding at Hacienda Antigua, an absolutely stunning Mexican Hacienda located about an hour from Puerto Vallarta.

With sweeping views, amazing architecture, and exquisite Mexican antiques as their back drop, their day was perfectly styled, from the beautiful florals by Flora Amor, to the classic looks we created for Lauren and her party!

Lauren and David hosted their welcome party at Hotel Haifa in Sayulita, complete with tacos el pastor and some of their delicious cocktails, and a good time was had by all.

I loved Lauren and David’s classic wedding style-and the photos by Cristina Civallero are not only stunning, but capture the mood of the day perfectly!!

Thanks so much Lauren, I wish you two a lifetime of happiness-you sure did kick it off with an amazing celebration!!

Alexandra’s Luxe Teitiare Wedding

Alexandra and Pete were married earlier this year at Teitiare Estate in a beautiful seaside celebration filled with touches to reflect their personalities(including their super cute fur baby!), mixed with luxurious florals and gorgeous decor to create an overall relaxed, yet sophisticated vibe.

Teitiare was the perfect setting for The Dazzling Details, Unique Rentals PV, and Flora Amor Mexico to come together and create a stunning atmosphere for everyone to celebrate the day(and well into the night) in style! I am still in awe of the floral installations above the tables! Alexandra’s dream team was rounded out with Taryn Baxter capturing the most stunning images from the day, and of course, I couldn’t do a party this size without a little help-this day it was the lovely Ella Leyva, thanks amiga!

I loved Alexandra’s soft, braided half-up style, paired with a more dramatic eye and the soft punch of color on her lips to complement the color palette was perfect! And can we just talk about the dress for a second? WOW!

Alexandra, thanks so much for inviting us into those special moments with you and your loved ones, and for choosing me to create the perfect bridal style for you. I wish you and Pete a lifetime of happiness and hope you have enjoyed reliving that day again today, even for a minute:)

And ps, Happy Birthday Pete-I hope you are having a good birthday week!

Erin and Greg's Luxe Sayulita wedding

Erin and Greg got married earlier this year and I absolutely loved the relaxed yet glamorous vibe of their day. Erin was a total knockout and rocked her wedding look like a pro, and Greg looked dashing in a casual 3 piece suit.

Karen from Sayulita Mexico Weddings styled the day beautifully with a gorgeous mix of muted bohemian textures with glass accents, and the Gran Villa was decorated so beautifully….she was definitely in all her glory! This was my first time working with Catalina Jean Photography and I hope it isn’t the last-I love their work and they were a pleasure to work around:)

I was a BIG fan of Erin’s classic and glamourous bridal look with perfect vintage waves, a simple and classic color palette for her makeup, and a single white flower behind her ear. Seriously, how can you go wrong with this beautiful look?? On top of that, Erin is total babe inside and out, and voila! One smokin’ hot Sayulita bride! This is how you do a glam bridal look for your beach wedding and have it completely make sense!

Thanks so much Erin for choosing me and sharing your precious getting ready time with me-I know how intimate those moments are and feel so privileged to be a part of those memories for you.

I loved meeting you and your amazing family-you guys killed it as the bride squad!!!

Lauren and Geoff’s Brisa del Mar wedding

Hailing from Toronto, living in Austria and getting married in Sayulita, Lauren and Geoff are definitely a global couple!

This wedding marks one of the first where I styled members of the bridal and groom’s party, and I had a blast! I definitely think the extra time to style your grooms hair etc is well worth it if they end up looking as great as Geoff and his guys!

As you can see, having fun was of the utmost importance to these two from start to finish and they definitely achieved their goal! Their ceremony and reception was held at the stunning Brisa del Mar, and was filled with relaxed bohemian vibes. I always love the florals and decor created by Mar Weddings Floral and I think they totally hit the mark with this one!

I love Lauren’s dress, if you can believe it, it was under $300. If I remember correctly, WELL under that amount too. She actually had another dress(a MUCH more expensive dress!) bought and paid for already and she sold it. Price aside…I think she made the right decision-that dress was perfect for her!! Just formal enough to elevate her look, but simple and not stuffy at all. I created a soft wave for her hair and added a textured twist to her hair to maintain her relaxed bridal look, and then we went for it with her makeup and gave her a bit more glam! I love how today’s brides are inspired by what they love and feel comfortable wearing, rather than what they think they are *supposed to do!

Lauren and Geoff, thanks so much for choosing me-it was a privilege spending the day with you and I love watching your European adventures!!!

Kelly and Tam's Seaside wedding in Sayulita

Kelly and Tam were  married in March of 2017, but I loved their wedding so much and this post has been waiting for the right time to post, so I apologize for the delay but this was too pretty not to share!

Kelly and I met approximately a year before her wedding on a scouting trip she and her fiance Tam took to Sayulita. This was the perfect opportunity to get to know one another a bit and go over what her vision was for her wedding. Approximately half of my brides take a trip to Sayulita months prior to the wedding to scout locations and have vendor meetings, which is a great opportunity to take a bit of time to do a mini-trial, which is hair and makeup styling, and a consultation regarding your overall vision for the wedding and general ideas for your overall look in the early planning stages, with the actual trial done in the week of the wedding. While it isn't mandatory, and is only recommended if budget allows, it's a great way to get to know one another so you feel comfortable expressing questions or changes/updates in the months leading up to the wedding. Plus, it's a great chance to get all dolled up and go on a Sayulita date with your husband to be!

On the day of her welcome party, we did her trial hair and makeup, then, once it was finished, I took it down to ensure we kept her bridal look under wraps, and gave her some loose waves with a pop of color on her lip to ensure she was picture perfect for their portrait session with Taryn Baxter, and through the rest of the night. I loved the festive vibe that was set up at Don Pedro's-the vibrant tones were the perfect backdrop to celebrate with family and friends while the sun went down.

Kelly and Tam are so much fun! Her effortless hair style and soft glam makeup was the perfect complement for her stunning gown and the beautiful setting she and Yazmin of Sea of Dreams weddings created for her and Tam to celebrate their marriage at one of my favorite Sayulita venues, Villa del Oso. It was  breathtakingly beautiful, every detail was pretty much perfect!

The wedding day was sunny and gorgeous(as it typically is in Sayulita), and we had a lovely time preparing her and her loved ones for the big day. We even shared a good laugh when I took headache medication which didn't really do the trick for me....who knew Excedrine had caffeine that would make me feel completely jittery? *Note to self, always carry Tylenol just in case*! So with that being dealt with quickly, we got back to the process of making Kelly and her girls look absolutely gorgeous and get her to her dream day. With stunning florals by Francisco Salazar, and the amazingly talented Taryn Baxter photographing every moment, Kelly's dream team was complete!

Kelly and Tam, you guys killed it and I know you are celebrating a lovely married life together as I still stalk you on Instagram:) Kelly, thanks so much for choosing me to design your bridal look, I still am absolutely in love with your style!!

Shetal and Phil's stunning Sayulita wedding!

I first met Shetal and Phil at El Break a months before their wedding in Sayulita to get to know them a bit and discuss their big day with them. Their wedding was my last scheduled wedding of the 2017/2018 season in Sayulita, and it was going to be a big one with two events; a traditional Hindu ceremony, and a Western wedding ceremony the following day. I pretty much instantly knew I loved their vibe! They are warm, funny and kind....and so in love. The kind of love that makes one move from the west coast to Ohio to be together. Phil’s devotion to Shetal is written all over his face, and he just wanted to ensure she was happy and had an unforgettable time in Sayulita, and Shetal is so sweet and loving to him, they really just want to make each other smile all day every day. I have to say, after spending some time with them during their wedding week, I'm pretty sure they are killing it. Sorry for the massive picture overload in this post, but I had to...two amazing events call for as many images as possible to show what a lovely time they had!

On the day of their traditional Hindu ceremony, Phil surprised Shetal by arriving to the venue on a white horse....accompanied by Mariachi! It was amazing:)  That pretty much set the tone for the rest of the evening and I think it's safe to say everyone had a great time! I always love to see the vibrant colors of the outfits, and Flor Mimo did a fabulous job both days, setting the mood with two completely different color palettes. And of course...no Hindu celebration would be complete without dancing. This celebration was second to none!

The wedding day was a hot and humid one, but we were ready to ensure Shetal's look was perfect all day long! One minor glitch...the power in the whole town went out for a short time. Props to Shetal for remaining calm in the face of what could have been a tricky situation to complete hair for her and her party(yes, the hot tools we use require power to work), but what she didn't know was that I had a plan b if needed. I ALWAYS carry my secret weapon-let's just say that not having power wasn't an issue for me and my second artist that day. While we continued to work on makeup and put it to the test with no fan or AC, the power eventually returned and we barely missed a beat. Kudos to Shetal and her girls for relaxing and enjoying the moment(just as they should have!).  They all looked like a million bucks and were not only a treat to be around, but were so focused on ensuring the focus was on Shetal and her big day. It was a privilege to witness...not to mention the 'prom photo' component for each girl that will surely be an inside joke for years to come:) They all had their looks suited to their own personal style, their dresses coordinated in varying shades of blue were gorgeous, and of course, Shetal's gown was a stunner!!

Shetal and Phil, thank you for being such stellar humans, and for reminding me that even on the hottest day when it feels stressy, it's important to smile at and for the ones you love. Sometimes it can be that simple. I wish you a lifetime of sunny days with cold cervezas and mucho amor!!

Thanks for choosing me, for friending me, and for being a totally rad last wedding of the season!!

Ali and Nicks top secret Yelapa elopement

When Ali contacted me to inquire about doing her hair and makeup for her elopement  at the stunning Verana Boutique Hotel in Yelapa, Mexico, I was totally stoked!

Not only is Yelapa one of my favorite getaway spots to completely chill out, but it was with one of my favorite photographers, Tom Moks Photography at a place I had always wanted to do a wedding at,Verana, as I had been told it was absolutely stunning! Let me tell you, it didn’t disappoint! If you haven’t heard of it, check it out. It’s stunningly beautiful, super private, quiet, and the service is impeccable. I lost one of my favorite earrings on my way up for the trial and was heartbroken that it was gone. The next day when I went back to do Ali’s bridal services, there was my earring. One of the groundskeepers had found it and the concierge remembered I was looking for it. Now THAT'S impressive! And of course, I’m a huge fan of Tom’s photography. He captures emotion so beautifully, is really easy to work with, and the style and mood of his photographs always reminds me of a high fashion magazine spread! As a client, you can’t help but feel like a supermodel!

The day before the wedding, I went to do Ali’s trial and style her for her engagement session with Tom, which was sizzling hot!! When I met her, I just thought, not only is she extremely down to earth and sweet, but this girl is a babe and she is gonna kill it! When you take a look at these photos, I doubt you could possibly disagree! I am pretty sure I'm totally infatuated with the images!!!

These two are the sweetest. I love that they wanted this moment in time to  be just for them. Personal, private, and completely intimate. I have to say, this is one of my favorite weddings for that very reason. It’s easy to forget that this is your day, and your way. No detail was left to chance, and every detail had a simple motivator-the other person, and expressing their love completely, truly, and privately.  The venue, the photographer, the dress(wow, what a dress!!), hair, makeup, all of it. I felt honored to be a part of it and wish them both a lifetime of happiness!!!

Thank you so much to Ali and Nick for sharing their time and their story with me-I wish them a lifetime of happiness:)

Here comes the Sayulita Bridal dream team!

Well hello there! Surprise surprise...a blog post! I know, it's not my strong suit...I just like to save them for really great things, and today I have something great to share!

My Sayulita wedding season has wound down, and I can't even begin to tell you all what a great season it was! Wow-sending the BIGGEST thanks to the most amazing clients, venues and colleagues for making this the best season. EVER. I look forward to what next year brings, and am excited to share a new development!!

In preparing for next season's beautiful babes, my lovely amiga Justine will  not only be working as a second artist on larger weddings, but offering Bridal Hair and Makeup services too! Some people may already know her as my regular second artist for over a decade in both Canada and Mexico, but that's all changing this year-no longer a second, now an Associate!!! We are both super excited to be able to accommodate more lovely ladies on their big days!

To celebrate this, we joined one of my favorite Edmonton and Destination photographers  (yes, she travels too, but only accepts a limited amount of Destination weddings) to doll each other up, and freshen up our head shots. I can't even begin to tell you how much fun we had(which is par for the course for us). Justine and I both love to laugh, and can't help but giggle when we are around each other. We  see the lighter side of life in most things...even when we are trying to be serious, and Jill captured the mood perfectly! People, this is the first time I have had my makeup and hair professionally done in YEARS. Thanks so much Justine for making me look so darn good,  I'm totally in Love with these images!!!

For those of you wondering about Justine, and how this new addition may help you, here we go!

We met 15 years ago at the salon we both started our careers in. As with many things in life, if you asked us then where we saw ourselves in 15 years, it likely wouldn't have entailed being in Mexico preparing women from all over the world for the day of their dreams, working alongside one another, sharing a lot of laughter, the odd tequila, and always FOOD! But seriously...how could we ever have imagined THAT? It's kind of a dream come true...but a bit more like the achievement of something really great through a ton of hard work, determination, and hustle. While that first salon didn’t work out for either of us, I am forever grateful for it. It was a spring board for us, and the beginning of not only a great friendship, but an outstanding working relationship.

After leaving the salon, I began freelancing, and Justine moved on to open and operate her first salon at the age 23(wow!), which she sold and moved on to open the current salon she co-owns with 2 super cool women who hold down the fort when she travels for work.  She continues to further her cutting, coloring, editorial styling and hair/makeup training with travel to Europe and NY, as well as one on one training with selected mentors locally.

Not long after I started freelancing, it became obvious that I would need help sometimes, so naturally, I asked if she was interested in working with me-that was 11 years ago, and the rest is history! I couldn’t ask for a better gal to work alongside-she’s the ying to my yang, the peanut butter to my jam, and all those other cool things! She brings a super relaxed vibe, positive energy, a genuine interest in other people, and her drive to ensure our clients look and feel their best for these big moments ensures I KNOW beyond a shadow of a doubt that any client she is charged with will always meet the standard I have set for myself and my clients. When we work together, it’s pretty much guaranteed to be fun, funny, and our clients are sure to walk away  on schedule, feeling like the queens they are! I trust her with pretty much anything and everything-she is the mom to a sweet 15 year old son(we have mom club together haha…which really means wine club) has an infectious laugh, an open heart, and LOVES food(who doesn’t??) Naturally, with a gal like that by your side in Canada, it’s a natural fit to have her work her magic in Mexico as well so I can rest easy knowing each and every client has the same attention I would expect for them if I were doing their services!!

We are both super excited for this, and although it means we won't always be able to work side by side, we will always have the post workday sunset, tequila and snack to enjoy together!

If you would like more information on the services we will be providing, pricing, or to check availability on the remaining 2018/19 wedding dates, please email me at jenn@jennchivers.com!

Emily's Sayulita Bohemian Luxe wedding

Well hello! It’s been a while-I’ve had an amazing season filled with absolutely gorgeous brides celebrating their big day with family and loved ones, and am stoked to  have time to share some moments of these babes on their big day!

First up, Emily. Her recent Sayulita wedding was a 10 out of 10 all around! I’m so grateful to not only work with such amazing brides...but the other vendors I have the good fortune to work with on these beautiful events are the icing on the cake! They say do something you love and you will never work a day in your life. Well, if you want to take it a step further....be surrounded by a team  of those people, and magic happens for everyone. A huge round of applause to all my amazing colleagues for being the exceptional artists and human beings they are!

When I met Emily in person at her trial, I was blown away. Not only by how beautiful she was, but how sweet, funny, relaxed and fun she was to be around, not to mention the love she had flowing her way from every single person I met that was there to celebrate with her.  When  we first talked, she told me she wanted something luxurious, yet relaxed with a bit of boho-and I was drooling over the results! I loved her style and the overall esthetic of the final result!

Seriously, every detail from the dress to the flowers, and everything in between was the perfect blend of luxury, tempered with a relaxed and laid back aporoach. Thanks so much for choosing me to be a part of your dream team-pretty sure we all knocked this one out of the park!

Caroline and John's Boho Romance Wedding in Sayulita

Caroline and John's Sayulita wedding day was an intimate event filled with love.  Her vision was for a simple, bohemian feel to the day, filled with beautiful details and the feeling of dreamy romance throughout. Pretty sure she nailed it.

One of my favorite feisty Mexicana's, Yazmin from Sea of Dreams Weddings designed gorgeous and comfortable spaces for Caroline and John, along with their family and friends, to lounge, eat, dance, and enjoy the day to the fullest. I was pretty much in awe of every detail of this day, and of course, Caroline had a dream team to help bring everything together so she could relax and enjoy every minute of it!

Caroline, thanks so much for putting your faith in me to create the perfect look for you, you were a dream to work with and I felt privileged to be a part of your day, it was so relaxed and full of warmth and love from everyone around you. It's obvious you have a lot of people who care a great deal for you!  A big thank you for including me in your special moments...you made one heck of a gorgeous bride. I'm still losing it over that dress! Every detail was perfection and the photos from the amazing Taryn Baxter are absolutely stunning!

A huge thanks to Caroline for choosing me to design her look her for her big day, it was an absolute pleasure and I loved the simple and easy feel to her hair and makeup! A major shoutout to Taryn Baxter for knocking it out of the park again  with these photos-all I can say is, WOW!

Madelyn + Lawrence. Married in Sayulita

I often say I am fortunate to do something I love so much for a career. While it is the product of a lot of  hard work, and a little luck,  it's still my dream job. Clients like Madelyn are part of the reason why. I can't believe she and Lawrence have been married for almost a year(yikes, I guess my 'i'm gonna blog more weddings' goal needs a bit of work), I loved working with her so much, she was an awesome client and even more awesome bride!

Anyone who has worked with me knows I love not only doing hair and makeup, but getting to know my clients and helping in any way I can to make them feel extra special on their big day. To me, it's not just professional, it's personal. I am part of someone's personal dream team, one they have carefully put together, and it's important I make every effort to be sure they have the best day possible!

I had a blast doing her hair and makeup on the wedding day, and she made me feel like I was part of her amazing family and peer group. Needless to say, the day was filled with laughter and hijinx-and I was extremely grateful she chose me to doll her and her girls up on her big day! Not only is she a knockout, but she is hilarious, and so super sweet! Her energy is contagious, and it's easy to see why she was surrounded by so much love.

She had a great team of Sayulita vendors to ensure everything went off without a hitch, a stunning venue, and every single detail was on point. I loved her bridal style, which was effortless, classic, and just a bit sassy(a lot like her!), not to mention, she was a total babe. If you get a chance to check her out on here on Instagram, she also happens to have the voice of an angel! You won't be sorry;)

Thanks so much again Madelyn and Lawrence, I cherish the moments I share with my clients and I love watching their lives grow!!

Adios 2016, bring on the New Year!

As this year comes to a close, I am reflecting, as always, on the year that has passed, everything that has unfolded in my life,  and  how extremely fortunate I am to spend such precious moments with so many amazing people! This year was no exception,  and I want to give a big shout out to the lovely ladies who trusted me to enhance their 'fabulous' for all their occasions,  and all the talented, fun and beautiful professionals that make my 'work' days bright. Each and every day.

This year has been filled with amazing moments, achievements and a whole lot of fun! I'm so lucky to have had my work featured in The Knot, on Snippet and Ink,  and Wedding Chicks. None of that would happen without the amazing women I worked with this year. It is always such an honor to get to know each one of my clients and their story, and share a real piece of ourselves with one another while we are at it. I know it's cliche, but I really don't feel like what I do is a job-I mean, really? Babes, fun, and creativity! Come on, it doesn't get much better than that!

I'm getting the hang of this Canada-Mexico thing and I can't help but pinch myself every time I think about how amazing it is to expand my skills with such diversity. This year was and is challenging personally at times, but that's life.  I'm making it through, and I'll be better for it. The bonus is I feel more accomplished for having come through those tough moments. I'm thankful to have a creative outlet that I can so thoroughly lose myself in to find the balance.

Looking back over the many images my clients and colleagues have sent me, I love reliving those moments we shared, I love to see the anticipation in each bride's eyes as she prepares for the biggest day of her life to this point, and am so excited to watch these beautiful women grow and build their lives. I feel connected to them more than they may know and I'm cheering each and every one of them on in all their life's adventures!.

I realize how positively my life is enriched by crossing paths with not only these lovely ladies as well as their family and friends, but also with the strong and dynamic people in the wedding industry who work tirelessly to do their part to create these amazing celebrations. Thank you to each and every one of you for sharing your laughter(and sometimes your tears) and making me a better person in the process!

Looking forward to the upcoming year, I can't help but feel totally excited with the second half of wedding season in Sayulita promising to treat me as well as it always does with the most amazing people, a Dominican Republic wedding with an amazing couple and kickass photographers, then back to Canada for summer weddings, with three bride's this summer who were bridesmaids of clients past tying the knot!

Hasta luego 2016! Now bring on 2017, I'm ready for you!

Sayulita beach shoot

Being back in Edmonton's winter wonderland(ahem) has me dreaming of the beaches and vibrant beach culture of Sayulita. On this chilly day, it felt like the perfect time to share images from a Sayulita photoshoot last April with a couple of amazing babes! After all, this chill needs a serious dose of that Sayulita heat and sunshine to warm up!

During wedding season, it can be difficult to make the time to do personal projects or collaborative work, but when I do, I'm always so inspired and excited to get back to my clients with a renewed vigor. I'm so fortunate to work with such a huge number of talented and inspiring people in not one, but two different places! This shoot was special one, as it was with one of my favorite Sayulita photographers, Taryn Baxter , and my lovely friend and Second Artist Justine,  and it was exactly what I needed.

The day of the shoot was a tough one for me on a personal note. My dad had been in an accident back in Canada the day before and was seriously injured. After discussing with my family, we decided to evaluate on a day to day basis whether I should go home. Taryn and Justine were up for anything I was, so the shoot went on and boy was that ever what I needed! Those few hours doing what I love with two so genuinely fun and sweet women were amazing. It felt good to feel normal for a few hours.  They may not fully know how grateful I was(and am) for their compassion, love, and caring during those days, especially on that one. The good news is that my dad is back to his old stubborn self causing a rucous daily.

Ultimately, laughs were had when there was no reason to, and we three made some pretty amazing memories.

Enjoy!

Thanks for the memories 2015!

It's hard to believe2015 has come to an end, it seems like the year just flew by! I hope the last moments of 2015 were good to you, and that 2016 will bring you all many new memories to look back on and cherish in years to come!

2015 was good to me. It forced me to think about what is really important to me, learn how to pack really efficiently, and to go with the flow more than I ever have before.

Reflecting on this past year, both personally and professionally,  I am excited and humbled, not only by the people I am surrounded by, but by the work I do and the direction it is going...let's face it, I'm one of the lucky ones. My job is to make people look gorgeous. Don't get me wrong-it's not always easy. It's hard work and there are a lot of moving parts that have nothing to do with applying makeup or styling hair, but at the end of the day (even if it has been a 14 hour day with a 3AM wakeup time, I'm dead on my feet, and I have administrative work waiting for me at home),  women invite me into their homes to share the most precious and special moments of their lives. For a time, I am part of their family and friends, their confidant, the mirror showing them beauty they don't always see, their shoulder to cry on(if needed), and their voice of reason. There's a camaraderie between us that I never forget and I hope they don't either.

If there is one thing I have learned about myself this year is that anyone can do hair or makeup, but my strength goes beyond that;  I don't just want to do hair and makeup, I want to build relationships with my clients as much as I want to build them with my friends. I want their day to be amazing and unforgettable. I want the time we spend together to add something to their day that goes beyond beautifying them. That's my move, and that's what makes me good at what I do.

Thank you so much to every single person who has put their faith in me, clients(past, present, and future), other wedding professionals, and friends!

2015 was a good year. 2016 is going to be unreal, and I'm excited to live the hell out of it!!!
