Emily's Sayulita Bohemian Luxe wedding

Well hello! It’s been a while-I’ve had an amazing season filled with absolutely gorgeous brides celebrating their big day with family and loved ones, and am stoked to  have time to share some moments of these babes on their big day!

First up, Emily. Her recent Sayulita wedding was a 10 out of 10 all around! I’m so grateful to not only work with such amazing brides...but the other vendors I have the good fortune to work with on these beautiful events are the icing on the cake! They say do something you love and you will never work a day in your life. Well, if you want to take it a step further....be surrounded by a team  of those people, and magic happens for everyone. A huge round of applause to all my amazing colleagues for being the exceptional artists and human beings they are!

When I met Emily in person at her trial, I was blown away. Not only by how beautiful she was, but how sweet, funny, relaxed and fun she was to be around, not to mention the love she had flowing her way from every single person I met that was there to celebrate with her.  When  we first talked, she told me she wanted something luxurious, yet relaxed with a bit of boho-and I was drooling over the results! I loved her style and the overall esthetic of the final result!

Seriously, every detail from the dress to the flowers, and everything in between was the perfect blend of luxury, tempered with a relaxed and laid back aporoach. Thanks so much for choosing me to be a part of your dream team-pretty sure we all knocked this one out of the park!

Caroline and John's Boho Romance Wedding in Sayulita

Caroline and John's Sayulita wedding day was an intimate event filled with love.  Her vision was for a simple, bohemian feel to the day, filled with beautiful details and the feeling of dreamy romance throughout. Pretty sure she nailed it.

One of my favorite feisty Mexicana's, Yazmin from Sea of Dreams Weddings designed gorgeous and comfortable spaces for Caroline and John, along with their family and friends, to lounge, eat, dance, and enjoy the day to the fullest. I was pretty much in awe of every detail of this day, and of course, Caroline had a dream team to help bring everything together so she could relax and enjoy every minute of it!

Caroline, thanks so much for putting your faith in me to create the perfect look for you, you were a dream to work with and I felt privileged to be a part of your day, it was so relaxed and full of warmth and love from everyone around you. It's obvious you have a lot of people who care a great deal for you!  A big thank you for including me in your special moments...you made one heck of a gorgeous bride. I'm still losing it over that dress! Every detail was perfection and the photos from the amazing Taryn Baxter are absolutely stunning!

A huge thanks to Caroline for choosing me to design her look her for her big day, it was an absolute pleasure and I loved the simple and easy feel to her hair and makeup! A major shoutout to Taryn Baxter for knocking it out of the park again  with these photos-all I can say is, WOW!

Madelyn + Lawrence. Married in Sayulita

I often say I am fortunate to do something I love so much for a career. While it is the product of a lot of  hard work, and a little luck,  it's still my dream job. Clients like Madelyn are part of the reason why. I can't believe she and Lawrence have been married for almost a year(yikes, I guess my 'i'm gonna blog more weddings' goal needs a bit of work), I loved working with her so much, she was an awesome client and even more awesome bride!

Anyone who has worked with me knows I love not only doing hair and makeup, but getting to know my clients and helping in any way I can to make them feel extra special on their big day. To me, it's not just professional, it's personal. I am part of someone's personal dream team, one they have carefully put together, and it's important I make every effort to be sure they have the best day possible!

I had a blast doing her hair and makeup on the wedding day, and she made me feel like I was part of her amazing family and peer group. Needless to say, the day was filled with laughter and hijinx-and I was extremely grateful she chose me to doll her and her girls up on her big day! Not only is she a knockout, but she is hilarious, and so super sweet! Her energy is contagious, and it's easy to see why she was surrounded by so much love.

She had a great team of Sayulita vendors to ensure everything went off without a hitch, a stunning venue, and every single detail was on point. I loved her bridal style, which was effortless, classic, and just a bit sassy(a lot like her!), not to mention, she was a total babe. If you get a chance to check her out on here on Instagram, she also happens to have the voice of an angel! You won't be sorry;)

Thanks so much again Madelyn and Lawrence, I cherish the moments I share with my clients and I love watching their lives grow!!

Adios 2016, bring on the New Year!

As this year comes to a close, I am reflecting, as always, on the year that has passed, everything that has unfolded in my life,  and  how extremely fortunate I am to spend such precious moments with so many amazing people! This year was no exception,  and I want to give a big shout out to the lovely ladies who trusted me to enhance their 'fabulous' for all their occasions,  and all the talented, fun and beautiful professionals that make my 'work' days bright. Each and every day.

This year has been filled with amazing moments, achievements and a whole lot of fun! I'm so lucky to have had my work featured in The Knot, on Snippet and Ink,  and Wedding Chicks. None of that would happen without the amazing women I worked with this year. It is always such an honor to get to know each one of my clients and their story, and share a real piece of ourselves with one another while we are at it. I know it's cliche, but I really don't feel like what I do is a job-I mean, really? Babes, fun, and creativity! Come on, it doesn't get much better than that!

I'm getting the hang of this Canada-Mexico thing and I can't help but pinch myself every time I think about how amazing it is to expand my skills with such diversity. This year was and is challenging personally at times, but that's life.  I'm making it through, and I'll be better for it. The bonus is I feel more accomplished for having come through those tough moments. I'm thankful to have a creative outlet that I can so thoroughly lose myself in to find the balance.

Looking back over the many images my clients and colleagues have sent me, I love reliving those moments we shared, I love to see the anticipation in each bride's eyes as she prepares for the biggest day of her life to this point, and am so excited to watch these beautiful women grow and build their lives. I feel connected to them more than they may know and I'm cheering each and every one of them on in all their life's adventures!.

I realize how positively my life is enriched by crossing paths with not only these lovely ladies as well as their family and friends, but also with the strong and dynamic people in the wedding industry who work tirelessly to do their part to create these amazing celebrations. Thank you to each and every one of you for sharing your laughter(and sometimes your tears) and making me a better person in the process!

Looking forward to the upcoming year, I can't help but feel totally excited with the second half of wedding season in Sayulita promising to treat me as well as it always does with the most amazing people, a Dominican Republic wedding with an amazing couple and kickass photographers, then back to Canada for summer weddings, with three bride's this summer who were bridesmaids of clients past tying the knot!

Hasta luego 2016! Now bring on 2017, I'm ready for you!

Sayulita beach shoot

Being back in Edmonton's winter wonderland(ahem) has me dreaming of the beaches and vibrant beach culture of Sayulita. On this chilly day, it felt like the perfect time to share images from a Sayulita photoshoot last April with a couple of amazing babes! After all, this chill needs a serious dose of that Sayulita heat and sunshine to warm up!

During wedding season, it can be difficult to make the time to do personal projects or collaborative work, but when I do, I'm always so inspired and excited to get back to my clients with a renewed vigor. I'm so fortunate to work with such a huge number of talented and inspiring people in not one, but two different places! This shoot was special one, as it was with one of my favorite Sayulita photographers, Taryn Baxter , and my lovely friend and Second Artist Justine,  and it was exactly what I needed.

The day of the shoot was a tough one for me on a personal note. My dad had been in an accident back in Canada the day before and was seriously injured. After discussing with my family, we decided to evaluate on a day to day basis whether I should go home. Taryn and Justine were up for anything I was, so the shoot went on and boy was that ever what I needed! Those few hours doing what I love with two so genuinely fun and sweet women were amazing. It felt good to feel normal for a few hours.  They may not fully know how grateful I was(and am) for their compassion, love, and caring during those days, especially on that one. The good news is that my dad is back to his old stubborn self causing a rucous daily.

Ultimately, laughs were had when there was no reason to, and we three made some pretty amazing memories.

Enjoy!

Thanks for the memories 2015!

It's hard to believe2015 has come to an end, it seems like the year just flew by! I hope the last moments of 2015 were good to you, and that 2016 will bring you all many new memories to look back on and cherish in years to come!

2015 was good to me. It forced me to think about what is really important to me, learn how to pack really efficiently, and to go with the flow more than I ever have before.

Reflecting on this past year, both personally and professionally,  I am excited and humbled, not only by the people I am surrounded by, but by the work I do and the direction it is going...let's face it, I'm one of the lucky ones. My job is to make people look gorgeous. Don't get me wrong-it's not always easy. It's hard work and there are a lot of moving parts that have nothing to do with applying makeup or styling hair, but at the end of the day (even if it has been a 14 hour day with a 3AM wakeup time, I'm dead on my feet, and I have administrative work waiting for me at home),  women invite me into their homes to share the most precious and special moments of their lives. For a time, I am part of their family and friends, their confidant, the mirror showing them beauty they don't always see, their shoulder to cry on(if needed), and their voice of reason. There's a camaraderie between us that I never forget and I hope they don't either.

If there is one thing I have learned about myself this year is that anyone can do hair or makeup, but my strength goes beyond that;  I don't just want to do hair and makeup, I want to build relationships with my clients as much as I want to build them with my friends. I want their day to be amazing and unforgettable. I want the time we spend together to add something to their day that goes beyond beautifying them. That's my move, and that's what makes me good at what I do.

Thank you so much to every single person who has put their faith in me, clients(past, present, and future), other wedding professionals, and friends!

2015 was a good year. 2016 is going to be unreal, and I'm excited to live the hell out of it!!!
